Selected from thousands of nominees, Becky McClean from Special Steps has been announced as the Gold Winner for Excellence in Special Needs Education at the Pearson National Teaching Awards 2024.
The awards are considered the ‘Oscars’ of the teaching profession with Ms McClean recognised for her exceptional contribution to both students and the wider community.
Becky McClean, the founder of Special Steps, said: “I am immensely honoured to have been awarded the Gold Award for Excellence in Special Needs Education at this year’s Pearson National Teaching Awards.
“This achievement reflects not only my passion but also the unwavering dedication of my incredible team at Special Steps.
“Our hard work and commitment to creating a nurturing environment for children with complex SEND has truly made a difference in the lives of the families we serve.”
Ms McClean founded Special Steps as an extremely rare nursery exclusively for children with SEND needs including those with palliative care, physical disabilities, autism and anxiety.
Initially running it from her home, Ms McClean has worked tirelessly to expand her provision, relocating to ensure more families can access it.
