An island college’s school partnership has been recognised with a national teaching award, which sector leaders say further illustrates the importance of investing in further education to the benefit of local schools, communities, and industries.
UHI Shetland’s School–College Partnership Programme with Shetland Islands Council won the Gold Award at the Pearson National Teaching Awards.
The programme provides S5 and S6 pupils across the isles with opportunities to study at UHI Shetland, gain qualifications alongside their school studies, and, as Principal Professor Dr Lewis Jane Lewis explained, learn about pathways to employment that do not require them to leave home.
