Antoinette Hamilton champions the use of innovative technologies such as AR/VR tools and green screen technology to drive inclusivity and innovation in her school, giving children a magical blend of learning methods and real-world experiences.
Having spent years experimenting with technology, Antoinette now has a wealth of knowledge and experience to capitalise on, which she uses to create an inclusive fun and engaging learning environment that can cater to the complex and multifaceted needs of students in the classroom.
Curious learners
Antoinette’s passion for technology stems from her childhood curiosity. She remembers always trying to find solutions to problems from a young age. Today, The Stour Academy Trust has harnessed her curiosity and knowledge to introduce technology into every classroom to support learning, including resources from ear defenders and voice recognition tools to 1:1 devices, digital notebooks which help to break down barriers for those who find writing a challenge, and promoting the use of AI to foster creativity.
Her unique approach ensures all children, including those with special educational needs (SEN), can learn effectively. Her focus is on breaking down barriers to promote accessibility and equitability to ensure every child has the opportunity to embrace learning and challenge themselves, just like Antoinette once did.
One colleague commented: “Children who struggled to access learning before the implementation, are now accessing their learning with ease which has resulted in positive learning attitudes.”
Alleviating concerns
With rising concerns around screen time, Antoinette has also worked to address parental concerns over the use of technology. Her focus has been to demonstrate that not all technology is screen-based and that balance is key.
With Antoinette spearheading this education, parents feel heard by the Trust and supported in finding technology that aligns with their children’s goals and interests. She also runs events like Stour Showcase days to showcase the impact of technology and its role in supporting education, as well as hosting training sessions for parents to build their confidence.
Educating the teachers
Antoniette’s guidance has also been instrumental in rationalising the concerns of other educators. Through Antoinette’s guidance and support, colleagues who were once hesitant about using technology, now advocate for its integration and effective inclusivity in classrooms across all levels of the Trust.
Beyond the classroom, Antoinette’s impact is seen in the resources she creates to help teachers incorporate technology into lessons. Thanks to Antoinette’s commitment and leadership, the Trust has created a technology-rich, inclusive environment that provides all students with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.
