They inspire and engage children, so they thrive, enjoy learning, and achieve well. They inspire others with their practice and the way in which they are caring, confidence-building, passionate and encouraging to both children and other colleagues. This award recognises those colleagues you feel are expert practitioners, who truly have a significant positive impact on the lives of those around them.

Who can enter?

  • Open to all primary phase teachers, teaching children aged 4-11 who hold QTS across the UK
  • We welcome entries from state and independent schools.
  • We welcome entries for diverse educators who represent the diversity of our society

To maximise your nominee’s chances of success, please address these points in your entry.

  • Teaching and learning: The skills and characteristics that make this teacher an exceptional classroom practitioner, who uses excellent pedagogy and inspires and motivates every child they teach so they make impressive progress and achieve well.
  • Learning environment: The ways in which your colleague creates a learning environment which inspires a love of learning and fosters a child’s enthusiasm to strive to achieve their full potential both educationally and holistically – developing a range of skills and qualities to help them be ambitious and optimistic about life.
  • Impact beyond the classroom: The ways in which your colleague influences and inspires other colleagues both within their own school and externally, to improve their practice, in turn improving outcomes for the children they teach. How they enrich the life of the wider school community. Why do others think they are an exceptional teacher?
  • Assessment: Monitoring and assessment methods used to evaluate the experience and progress of each pupil allowing approaches to be adjusted to take account of the needs of individual pupils and the class as a whole; ensuring continuing assessment has a significant and positive impact on a pupil’s academic outcome and self-esteem.
