This category is open to all secondary schools or middle schools teaching children aged 11-18 in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

  • A school for all: The extent to which your school is inclusive with students achieving well against the odds, showing confidence and optimism about opportunities and life after school and wanting to make a contribution to their community as good citizens.
  • Brighter futures: Ways in which the school has overcome local challenges to create a school where pupils, parents and the school community feel pride and ownership- they can point to examples of successful change but are also clear about vision and direction.
  • Beyond the classroom: Examples of positive working between school and community that not only support students but also encourage successful community engagement, cohesion and development.
  • Inspiring and engaging others: Ways in which the school collaborates with others, including engaging parents and other key partners, in the life and learning of the school so that students broaden their opportunities, become better motivated and more confident about the world of work.
