The Streetly Academy
The Award for Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School
Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands
Pauline Astle has led the Science department through some difficult times and achieved impressive GCSE results for the department and exceptional A level performance, with progress in Physics and Biology.
In 2015, The Streetly Academy SCITT became one of the first schools to become part of the Researchers in Schools project, which brings PhD graduates into schools to train as teachers and share their knowledge in comprehensive schools. Streetly took on 5 placements and thanks to Pauline’s exceptional mentoring and programme development, is the most successful centre for the programme in the UK. Researchers have identified Pauline’s work as exemplary.
In 2016 she joined the leadership team and now runs the Aspirations for the Future programme, bringing parents from disadvantaged communities into school to help them with their children’s education
