Lee Whitmarsh’s innovative technology project involves students being paired with members of the local community who are living with dementia. Working together in a series of workshops, young people help create an interactive personalised ‘life story’ for the people affected. This has helped raise awareness and an understanding of dementia among young people, in addition to providing real practical support for people in the community living with this illness.
Lee came up with this idea eighteen months ago and the project has been instrumental in Alsager becoming the first Dementia Friendly Town in Cheshire and all six schools in the community are now dementia friendly. Lee’s work and the way in which his project has brought the school and the community together for the mutual benefit of different generations is something quite remarkable.
