Celebrating transformational teaching

David Baldwin

Churchill Community College

The Award for Headteacher of the Year in a Secondary School

WALLSEND, TYNE AND WEAR

David joined his school in 2000; he came to a school in an area that faced many challenges and
that, historically, had low levels of achievement. His leadership has transformed the College. His
values are ingrained in the work of staff and in their dedication to improving children’s life-chances.
David has a dynamic work ethic that inspires others to aim high. Examination results now place
Churchill in the top three schools in the North of England and Ofsted judged Churchill as Outstanding
in every category in June 2014, citing outstanding and inspirational leadership. This reflects David’s
vision that the very highest standards of achievement are reached by every student.
