A primary school teacher from Doncaster has been awarded the Gold Teacher of the Year in a Primary School.
Natalie Poornomansy, who works at Outwood Primary Academy Woodlands, was given the news on the BBC’s One Show on Monday by her favourite pop star Duncan James of Blue.
Selected from thousands of nominees in the Pearson National Teaching Awards, she has been recognised for her exceptional contribution to both students and the wider community.
Ms Poornomansy said: “I think anyone that works in teaching knows that sometimes it feels not very appreciated, so it’s nice to know that people notice.”
The award highlights teachers who go above and beyond to have a significant positive impact on the lives of those around them.
Ms Poornomansy was recognised for her work establishing the school’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision, including teaching sign language to songs during music lessons.
