A teacher who has been named the best in the country says he decided to take up the profession after a night at a Take That gig.
Matthew King, 33, had originally pursued a career in finance. While watching the pop group with his schoolteacher sister, he mentioned he needed more experience for his CV and she invited him to spend a few days in the finance department of the school she worked at.
While there, he couldn’t help but watch the teachers at work – and realised the profession looked far more rewarding than the one he had chosen. Now, has been recognised as one of the best school teachers in the UK, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Matthew, from Crosby, won gold in the Teacher of the Year in a Primary School in the 2023 Pearson National Teaching Awards. He moved to Trinity St Peters after working for four years at Churchtown Primary in Southport.
