Greg Smalley, from Aurora Woodlands School in Darwen, was announced as the Gold Winner on BBC’s The One Show.
Mr Smalley, the school’s Higher Level Teaching Assistant, is celebrated for his work at the school’s forest school.
Here, he helps pupils with ‘social, emotional, and mental health difficulties’, as well as those with autism spectrum conditions (ASC).
His approach engages these students, helping them develop practical, social, and emotional skills.
He also builds connections with local groups, encouraging students to create outdoor environments and care for newly hatched chicks and ducklings.
The One Show’s Alex Jones surprised Mr Smalley with the news of his award win, and he also received messages of congratulations from gardener and broadcaster, Alan Titchmarsh, and nature photographer, Chris Packham.
Mr Smalley was selected from thousands of nominees, and recognised for his ‘exceptional contribution’ to both students and the wider community.
The Pearson National Teaching Awards, often dubbed the ‘Oscars’ of the teaching profession, is an annual celebration honouring the achievements of educators.
