Patrick’s leadership has had a transformational effect on Hope Academy. Having taken his previous school to an Ofsted judgement of outstanding in 2009, he arrived at Hope Academy in 2015 at a time when the academy was languishing in special measures, and had shown little improvement after more than a year in this category. He swiftly acted to initiate improvement in virtually every area of the academy’s work, inspiring staff, students and parents to share his vision for the future, and raising the expectations and morale of all stakeholders. Within 11 months of his arrival, attendance had improved dramatically, students aspired to be successful and to aim high, and Hope Academy was described by Ofsted as good. The improvement in all aspects of school life is continuing, and an atmosphere of optimism and belief prevails.
