Jerry Nightingale

Weston College provides educational services for prisons in the South West and Jerry is a Lecturer for Offender Learning Services at HMP Channings Wood. The workshop that he devised restores abandoned bicycles which are then made available to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. His learners take great pride in rebuilding these cycles to “good as new” as they are directly making a contribution to the local community. His Mechanics workshop not only gives great skills for employability, his inspirational, positive and focussed teaching style helps learners overcome their preexisting barriers to learning in a way that has a hugely positive impact on their opportunities following prison.
