Florence Makinde

Florence is an exceptional example of professionalism and a highly valued member of Newham College. With her dual registration in nursing and midwifery and more than 20 years’ NHS experience, she brings outstanding clinical expertise and real-world insight to every lesson. Her teaching equips students across BTEC, T level and Higher National programmes with vital healthcare skills, from blood pressure monitoring and infection control to care planning. Her compassionate, learner-focused approach inspires confidence, ambition and resilience in her students. She creates an inclusive environment where learners feel supported to succeed and pursue rewarding careers. Her impact is tangible – after organising an employer event with CareTech, four students secured clinical placements. Beyond the classroom, Florence is a trusted voice in the community, delivering talks on menopause, parenting, mental health and wellbeing at a local women’s centre. Combining professional excellence with deep empathy, she is a true beacon of inspiration to students, colleagues and the wider community alike.
