Mary Palmer Chief Executive Officer

Mary has run the Teaching Awards Trust since 2016 and is responsible for the growth and strategic development of the charity, working closely with the Chair and board of trustees. As a passionate advocate for the life-changing work that takes place in education, Mary believes that the profession should be more respected, celebrated and appreciated, and is proud of the ongoing success of the Teaching Awards Trust’s campaigns to ensure that this is the case. Mary has worked for nearly 20 years in the not-for-profit sector, having previously run an ed-tech charity and worked internationally with the Mayor of London’s promotional organisation, London & Partners.

Rebecca Laidlaw Marketing Director

Rebecca has been working for the Teaching Awards Trust since 2019 and is responsible for the creative and marketing strategy of our two campaigns. Rebecca’s key role is to improve engagement within both the education sector and amongst consumers to increase the reach of both campaigns and their commercial viability. Rebecca is a passionate marketer and loves the creative scope that both campaigns bring to highlight the work of educators across the UK. She has worked in marketing for over 25 years both agency side and in-house for a variety of companies and clients including but not limited to Procter and Gamble, Tissot, Ogilvy, BUPA. MoneyCorp and Next.

Kate Micallef Awards and External Relationships Manager

Kate is responsible for the smooth running of the Awards scheme, with the aim of ensuring all those who participate in the Awards have an excellent experience. Responsible for the recruitment and management of volunteer judges, and external stakeholders her aim is to ensure the Awards are representative of those working in the education sector. Having started her career running the UK arm of an international recruitment company in this and her previous Teaching Awards roles over the last 17 years Kate combines her passion for education with her love of working with people to give them a positive experience.

Lawrence George Charles Croot Social Media and Marketing Executive

Social Media and Marketing Executive Lawrence is responsible for managing the social media and marketing campaigns of the charity. With valued experience at the Financial Ombudsman Service and In2ScienceUK, Lawrence has gained a profound respect for the role of strategic messaging in driving social change in financial education and social mobility. At the Teaching Awards Trust, he remains committed to empowering individuals and uplifting the teaching community, ensuring educators are celebrated for their incredible work.

Emma Shaw-Bishop Administration Manager & PA to CEO

Administration Manager and Personal Assistant to the CEO, with more than 30 years’ experience in administration, organisation, and event management across different sectors including financial services and education, Emma is a skilled organiser with a keen eye for detail. Emma is passionate about education and looks forward to supporting the Trust and the annual events programme, which honours and celebrates the transformative contributions of individuals across the education sector.

James Cardno Marketing & Campaigns Executive

James is the Marketing and Campaigns Executive at the Teaching Awards Trust. From copywriting and social media to campaign planning and school resources, James helps bring these campaigns to life each year. James loves the creative variety of the role, whether that’s creating content for parents and pupils, building classroom resources, or coordinating the celebrations of Thank a Teacher Day and the awards season. Having worked in education for 10+ years, James has a genuine passion for education and a belief that every teacher deserves to be recognised and celebrated.
