The Award for Secondary School of the Year – making a difference, supported by Future First

BACKGROUND

This category has been introduced to recognise the power of a school not only to transform the life chances of local children but also to enrich the local community.

 Our judges are particularly interested in seeing:

  • Examples of successful community engagement & cohesion
  • A record of sharing their good practice with others
  • Entries from schools where the location is in an area of above average deprivation
  • Schools who can evidence strong achievement and progress across the school community
  • Social and educational inclusion within the pupil population
  • High standards of behaviour
  • Evidence of active engagement in promoting harmony among different social and faith communities

 

CORE QUESTION

How has the school transformed the life chances of children and brought enrichment to their local community, whilst maintaining excellence in teaching and learning?

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Please ensure you read through the entry guide, eligibility, criteria and questions carefully before submitting your entry.
  • This award is open to all secondary phase schools, teaching children aged 11-18.
  • Applications from state and independent schools are welcome.
  • All entrants in this category must hold qualified teacher status and have been teaching for more than 3 years.

 

GUIDANCE

The focus of the Pearson Teaching Awards criteria is teaching and learning.

  • Please think about the core question and address the category criteria when completing your entry.
  • Criteria questions are designed as a prompt to help you in formulating your entry and to give guidance on the type of questions that panel members will be exploring to compile their shortlist of finalists.
  • It is recommended that you provide written evidence and examples to support your statements wherever possible. Additional evidence can be shown to our judges when they visit your school, should your nominee be shortlisted. Please therefore do not include external hyperlinks in this document.
  • It is recommended that you write approximately, but not more than 250 words per section.

  • Once the form is completed the Headteacher should click submit at the bottom of this form by midnight on Sunday 10th March 2019. Alternatively, if you are not the Headteacher you can submit the form but the Headteacher must be aware of the entry.
