Well done
We are so proud of you. You have work hard all these years to achieve this. Most of all it is all down to your mum and dads encouragement when you were young. I can still remember you playing pianoforte solos when you were about 10. Hope the next round is as successful. Love to you.

With love and pride....
The past 30yrs of my lifetime are filled with fond memories of a father who's own ability and natural musical talent has always taken second place to a passion for teaching.
On the occassions when I have had the opportunity to help by playing in one of the many groups you have led, it has always been evident that your inspirational leadership is rewarded by enthusiastic pupils and committed staff who's primary motivation is to demonstrate the potential that you could already see.
I have an overwhelming amount of respect for you as a musician but even more as a teacher. Successes with my early instrumental lessons, Associated Board exams, GCSE Syllabus and A'level music lessons have been as a direct result of your unsurpassed knowledge and teaching style which never ceased to leave me thinking "Is there anything he can't do!" yet I am more amazed when I consider that I am just one of the thousands who you have touched in this way.
I am delighted that your achievement has been recognised and I know too that for every one testimonial submitted to the judges there would be another three or four people who could give first hand experience of how you have positively affected their lives.
You deserve every bit of this award plus some more!
Congratulations, with love and pride.....

Congratulations Mr Seager, a well deserved award. I’m not sure where (or how) to start thanking you for your support and encouragement while I was a pupil at Walton School. I really enjoyed my time at Walton, especially all the activities related to music. Looking back now, I realise how lucky I was to attend a school as good as Walton. All the best for the future and I hope you have a long and enjoyable retirement. Cheers Andy Beechey

Memories
Sir, I remember you as my music teacher at Bourne Grammer School, one of your first appointments I believe – that hair do and those heels! I also remember very well your lesson on modulation using Puppet on a String by Ms Sandi Shaw as an example and vividly remember performing a faltering piano solo in class which was applauded with enthusiastic and encouraging noises from your good self – I just wanted to go off and cry. Imagine my surprise then a fair few years later being introduced to one of my sister in law’s good friends and finding that it’s ‘Sir’ – hair and heels still in evidence! Seriously, I just felt I wanted to add my congratulations for a job well done and wish you and Sue all the best for the future.

Fantastic achievement
I suppose that I am one of the few people leaving a message here that has never ever received a music lesson from you in my life! However, I have been honoured to hear you play, and to be "wowed" by your musicianship. Because I am married to one of your ex-Band members at the Salvation Army, I have heard just how that musicianship is translated into teaching, and the obvious joy that you get from doing that. I have also been told by many ex-pupils at Walton how wonderful a teacher you really are, and the influences that you have had on people are quite incredible. Thoroughully deserved award, and what a way to retire!

Thank you
Much deserved congratulations on your award! I would most of all like to thank you for all the opportunities you gave to me during my time at Walton. You created a sanctuary separate from the rest of the school. It was a place where I loved to be and I will always be grateful for the relentless time and effort you gave. I have lots of fond memories… like your weekly lunch chip shop treat, and buying us lollies in the summer! Every piano lesson you’d lean on your elbow on the edge of the piano and it’d slip down! Tripping over the drum kit….and how can I not mention those trousers you were forever pulling up! Summer and Christmas concerts, fetes and a few dodgy ones too (I’m thinking the Marks and Spencer concert sitting amongst the clothes, and the old peoples home gig across the road)!!! They were all so much fun. Thank you so much, Lorraine x

I can honestly say I don't think that there is another teacher who deserves this more than you! I cannot say how much your help and support has meant to me over the past five years. There are not words enough to thank you! I think that the final summer concert showed just how much you have touched the lives of us students, and how much you have achieved over the years. Without your encouragement and enthusiasm music would not have been half as enjoyable! So thank you again! We will all miss you- when's the first reunion? Amy x

WOW!
Who would have thought the person that bought me my first clarinet and introduced me to 'Freddie' would be nominated for a lifetime achievement award. Its fantastic Grant. You really deserve all the acclaim for dedicating so much of your life to this cause. When your heart is in music its a pleasure doing the job you've done however there must have been many challenges along the way. Achieving success like this only comes with hard work, determination and committment. You will never know how many young people that you have influenced along the way, and I know there are many, me being one (not so young now though!). Your early encouragement set the scene for so much enjoyment making music and I thank you so much for that. Enjoy the limelight Grant and soak up all the praise, you deserve it! Well done. I just wanted to say many congratulations on your award! Having already read many of the messages, it is clear to see how inspirational you have been to so many, throughout a distinguished career.I was lucky enough to work with you in the music department at Walton for five years - it was my first teaching post and I want you to know how much I loved working with you - your leadership, support, encouragement and wicked sense of humour never failed me! I would like to thank you for moulding me into the teacher I am today, and in turn your ideas and influence stretch even further and benefit more children. Truly Deserved!!
Well if anyone should be honoured with a teaching award, it simply MUST be Mr. Seager. I still cannot call this legend 'Grant' even though I was continously told to do so. It just never seemed apt to address someone with such talent on a first name basis. However, the formality on my part always felt so absurb since you were so kind and caring. I still remember even now, the countless times my mum was late picking me up, and you would make sure I didn't feel uncomfortable whilst waiting for her, by chatting to me about my mundane life! Having just graduated as a doctor, I still cherish those memories. The writing! The highlighters! The laughter! To play and appreciate music is such a wonderful gift, and for that Mr. Seager, to you I am eternally greatful. Best Wishes. Sonia

Thank You
Well Mr. Seager, I think you should probably get an award just for teaching a trouble-maker like me!! I think if I had had any other teacher, I would have given up music almost immediately. Your guidance and encouragement, even after all the headaches I gave you with my constant excuses for not being able to practise 'that week' really paid off. You were never once deterred by my behaviour and I will always be so thankful. You made learning music so much fun. Congratulations Mr. Seager. You deserve it. Pawan

Talented and Devoted Teacher
Your dedication and commitment saw all my 3 children getting grade A* in GCSE music one to two years ahead. This achievement was totally due to your teaching quality and and generating interest and curiosity among the children. The music talent they developed with your guidance has made them interesting human beings. They are always trying different instruments and the training you gave them on the piano has become a foundation stone. You deserve the recognition and we wish you best of luck in the final. Having seen the success you have achieved teaching our and other children you are the only worthy winner.

Well done Grant. We remember when you first took over leadership of the Young Peoples Band at the Salvation Army in Peterborough. The children could scarcely play a hymn tune. Within a year the group were fulfilling engagements in many places. This speaks of your superb teaching and training skills. You have inspired and encouraged so many young people to achieve their full potential. You are more than a brilliant music teacher - you are a superb role model to all who come under your influence. Lifetime achievement for a lifetime's work
Dear Mr Seager,
Without your support, encouragement and not a small amount of chivvying, you brought out the best in all of us during our time at Walton, both 30 years ago right up to today. I was proud to be a member of the Walton School Choir, Madrigal Group and an instrumentalist. This nurtured my passion for music and I am happy to say, I'm still singing...not the soprano I used to be however, now a lady bass. Jennifer and I cannot express our gratitude enough for your time and commitment.

To my son, very well done...
Grant, from the day you were born Janet and I adored you - this has never changed. I have no doubt that Janet is as proud of your achievement as I am, moreover if she were here to share this accolade then her excitement would be overflowing and everyone would know!
A certain composer was once conducting a group of musicians when approx 8 bars into the music he stopped saying
"Gentleman, thats not good enough, remember that in life only the best is good enough for the Lord".
Grant, you have always shown that you give your best in all that you do and I am most pleased to celebrate not just your achievement, but all that you have become. God bless you, with love from Dad.

Well done to such a talented and devoted teacher.
Congratulations on your award! I was so pleased when I heard that you had received a lifetime achievement award, I cannot think of any other teacher who is more deserving of this award than you! Over the past 6 or 7 years you have not only been an enthusiastic teacher but also someone I could inspire to be. After working with you for a year I will take forward everything you have taught me and I know the support and encouragement you have given me will live on when I become a teacher! Thank you so much for everything and congratulations on this amazing recognition!!

Congratulations
Well Done!!! You are so deserving of this award, with all of the hard work and commitment you have shown every one of your pupils, including me. There isn't another teacher that deserves it more!! I think that the last summer concert showed just how much you are appreciated, and all of the gifts that followed too. Music will not be the same now, but I hope that we can stay in contact and get together soon.
Thank You and congratulations once again!!

Supersonic!!!
Well Mr Seager, where do I begin? I know I've said this to you before but I do feel truly blessed to have worked with you during my six years at Walton. I am so grateful to you for taking a gamble that August day in 2000 and agreeing to take me on as a trainee teacher. You treated me as a fully qualified teacher from Day 1 and did everything possible to ensure that my year as a trainee teacher was as successful as possible. You were an unending source of knowledge, experience, advice and encouragement and that continued throughout my time at Walton and still continues to this day. You have taught me so much, too much to mention here, which I know will be invaluable when I resume my teaching career. A huge thankyou for all you have done for me, as a mentor, colleague and most importantly, friend. Huge congratulations for all you have achieved throughout your career and for this wonderful award. Now go and crack open a bottle!

I have never been less than amazed at how you bring the best out of the people around you - students and staff. I think you are the Alex Ferguson of the music world. You are a legend to so many in Peterborough Grant and you fully deserve national recognition for your inspiring career. Joe.

Well Done Grant!
Well Done Grant a great recognition of a wonderful career in Teaching. It is thoroughly deserved. What you believe affects what you do and I know the belief you have had in the children, their talent and what they can aspire to over the years you have taught them has surely influenced their lives for the good and has given them just some of the tools they need to go through life!
That applies not only to the children you have taught but the influence you have had on those of us who are blessed to have you as a true friend. Wishing you lots of fun and laughter in your retirement!

A real blessing..
Grant, not only are you an inspirational teacher, but you always seem to have time to encourage others. You are the ultimate professional with that twinkle in your eye and kind word for all. You gave Walton School it's sparkle; those carol services were just beautiful. I wish you all the best and thank you for all you have given to our students.

Dear Grant
I have already expressed to you verbally, but would like to add to your message board how really delighted I am that at the end of your teaching career you have received such a well deserved and amazing accolade. I remember so well how you shared with Tony and I some of the highs and lows of teaching but you were always so proud of the results attained by your pupils and so very modest about the part which you so diligently and brilliantly played in their success. You were such a good and faithful friend to Tony - he would have been so very thrilled for you now - and once again, my most sincere congratulations.

more than just a music teacher
In the time I have got to know you, I have rally appreciated how much more than music you gave your students. You gave them a "home." You gave them belief. You developed in them the desire to stirve for the best that they can do. Well done Grant, and thank you.

A Well Deserved Honour
Ever since I have known you Grant, from back in 1984 when I started at Walton, I have been impressed by the highest standards of professionalism which you have set yourself and your department. The standards expected by you of the pupils were met out the respect they had and still have for you and your work. The standard of your concerts and performances have always been unsurpassed in any of the other schools I have taught in. I can think of no one who deserves this award more. Well done and good luck in your retirement!

Absolutely Brilliant!
Since the early 80s, long before I came to work at Walton, I came to the annual Music concerts because they were quite simply 'great'! The obvious result of lots of hard work and organisation by yourself and your team, the enjoyment both of the students and the audience was there for all to see. It made Walton school a beacon of excellence for music which attracted students of all abilities who had a desire to improve their musical skills. My enjoyment saw me coming back year after year and it seemed that each concert surpassed the last one! It must be fantastic to know that you have given such enjoyment to so many people over the years, and especially a love of music to so many students who will in turn pass that on to their offspring! Good to see you getting the recognition you deserve.

A Fantasic acheivement and thoroughly deserved.
Everything that has been said before me and the award you have received is awesome and totally deserved.
I'll always remember you as my YP Band Leader telling me I should move on to tuba. I dismissed it at the time but you saw the potential in me and not just class me as a duff 2nd baritione player. Who knows what would have happened if I had listened to you sooner!
Thanks for being a great influence on me musically, personally and spiritually.
Well done once again.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Grant, I am so very pleased to hear that you've received this award. I'll always be grateful for the time, advice and patience you invested in my piano playing in the early years. I don't think there's ever an occasion where I sit down to play and don’t think about some technique you taught me. You’ve had a real influence on how I play, and more often, how I wish I could play (and I’ll never forget the amusing GCSE lessons with Richard!!). Many congratulations and don't forget to enjoy your retirement! Becca xxx

Bravo !
Congratulations Grant----- This is well earned recognition of your achievements. It's been great working with you for many years and I will certainly miss it , but will keep many fond memories of the trips to the London music shows; driving us all mad with your relentless quest for perfection; the Xmas concerts executed with military precision ; Castor village hall ; M&S and Paston church fetes were always a giggle . Then of course there were your weekly banquets of toast, 2 inches of butter and squirty cheese spread over the A4 table cloth with desserts by Mars !
I have always admired your ability to run such a slick department and bring out the best in both staff and pupils and your investment in the classroom child as well as the instrumentalist has been most impressive, not to mention your competent business skills. Thanks for all the encouragement , recognition and support you have given me over many years. Have a great retirement, go easy on the butter and maybe learn a bit of jazz ?
Good luck, Alex

My favourite teacher
My Dearest Mr. Seager,
What fond memories I have of you. Although I have not seen you for 10 years you are often in my thoughts. In you I not only found a teacher whom I valued and respected but a friend who truly cared about my life and achievements. It was you who drove me and pushed me into music and you who I have to thank for that. When I finished at Walton I stopped playing my saxophone, I know that is because I no longer had you in my life to keep me going. You have influenced the future of thousands of young adults, you must have the peace of mind of knowing that you have done something positive with your life. I really hope that now you can focus on you and your family and enjoy retirement as you deserve it very much. May God bless you and your family and reward you for your dedication and kindness. I will always remember you, my memories will never fade. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

FANTASTIC
Hi ya Mr Seager....its one of your past pupils who you once described to her mother at parents evening..."She is like a bottle of fizzy pop all shook up with the lid left on!" Yes you know who it is now. I am so proud of what you have achieved. You are truly inspirational... you see things in students that no-one else can see, you believe in them when they don't believe in themselves, which gives them courage to try out new things they never would have done without you. Thank you for not only putting up with me for all those years but I then had the cheek to send my son to you! who you also inspired to play an instrument who now plays the Guitar in his own unique style. Good Luck and our warmest good wishes for the future "Mr Seager" Love from Kendra and Kalvin Watson

LEGEND!!!
When I first met you back in yr 7 I think I was one of many pupils who were terrified of you. As I got to know you five years later during my A levels a soon realised that the only terrifying thing about you is your relentless pursuit for perfection in both your pupils and your staffs work. The relationships you have with both staff and students are always that of trust, respect and most significantly warmth. I can't say that I know a great deal about your personality or many achievements within and outside the music department. But I can say that there are two things that I’m certain of. One: for every minute you spent at your 'job', you always managed to accomplish two minutes worth of work. And finally this: if you’re going to do something, do it right!! If you’re going to be great at something get it perfect. Thanks for two great years sir....... oh and try to lay off the coffee ok!!!

Oh The Memories!
This has been on my list of jobs to do for some time now....and now it's reached the top!
So...where to start?!!!
I think it's by saying a very big "Thank You" for so many happy memories. Memories including learning to play guitar in those little practice rooms, taking flute lessons at the weekend, band practice after school, and practising carols in our lunch breaks, listening to your words of wisdom as our form tutor, and showing your form group, including me, a pound coin for the first time!!
You were always there, with encouragement and advice. Always guiding, and nurturing. Always so positive and inspirational.
You have been such a big part of my family's history, both the Beechey's and the Braziers, and when I think back to my time at Walton it's memories of events like the Carol Concerts that really stand out for me. I shed a tear at last years, knowing it would be the last.
You truly were, and are, a legend. Thank you for all the time you gave. When I am grey and old, I've no doubt that I shall still be recounting stories of when we would walk into our magical church, carrying candles, and singing and playing like angels(?!) whilst our proud Mum recorded it on her hand held tape recorder. We'd all listen back afterwards, singing along!
I may not have excelled at it all, but that doesn't lessen the strength or warmth of those memories, and I thank you so much for that.
Enjoy every minute of your retirement, for me-thinks you have earnt it.
With fond regards and best wishes Sal :O)

To all my pupils, colleagues, friends and family.
I feel I can't just keep receiving all these wonderful messages without expressing my deep appreciation to each of you for taking the time to leave the many generous comments that have appeared on this website. I have been overwhelmed by the whole process, the nomination, winning the award and most of all the sentiments left here by so many pupils, colleagues, friends and family. To all my pupils over the many years, I say a huge thank you. I know I challenged you to achieve your very best and tried to convince you of your capabilities, then, so many times you surpassed even my expectations. I know that I would not have gained this award without your efforts and the excellent working partnerships we formed between us. You have given me far more than I have ever given to you. To my colleagues, past and present, I acknowledge that I have been very fortunate that someone took the time to nominate me for this award and that my head teacher John Catton endorsed the nomination. However, I also know that many of you are superb teachers and equally capable of achieving a Teaching Award within one of the various categories. I am trying to keep my feet firmly on the ground despite all this attention and would urge you to nominate a colleague for the 2008 awards. Firstly, because many of you are brilliant teachers and secondly, because believe me, it is a truely uplifting experience for the recipient, just to be nominated. I have been very fortunate, that over the years I have worked with some wonderful staff within the music department and I believe that you have all contributed to my achievements. Thank you so much. To my friends and family, thank you for all your support and for the way that you have been thrilled to share this success with me. I have been very moved and had many emotional moments reading the messages left here. To Lynda Rippon, who nominated me in the first place, I think you know how grateful I am. Now, at the end of my career, you have given me the opportunity to rekindle many many relationships from the past, helping me to walk away knowing I have had an impact on the lives of my pupils. Had you not nominated me for this award, I think my personal view of my career may have been quite different. Thank you once again for opening up this avenue of memories. As I said to you after the award ceremony - You've changed my life.

Nice one!
When Mum told me you'd been given a teaching award i really could'nt think of a more deserving person, all the kind support i've had through the year from Mrs Harris, telling me how i should have no excuse whatsoever for getting top grades for my gcse's, with such a musically talented family, are so true when i can think of certain special people like yourself, Simon, Poppa and equally special others, who have been lucky and talented enough to continue into adult life with a strong musical career.
I'm sure you will be happy to know that i passed with an A, and also am auditioning for Mary Magdelene in Jesus Christ Superstar tomorrow! It was your great knowlege you transferred to Mrs Harris and then her to me. For that i am VERY proud.
We are all ever-so happy for you, and even more that you have sucessfully made it through to London, where we will all watch you on the TV!
So congratulations!!! And I hope you can come visit BGS again for JCS, where it will also be a very important night for Mrs Harris.
Love to you Sue and Derren and the rowdy Champkin lot!
lots of love & happiness - Zoë :)

Director of Music Bourne Grammar School
How do you thank someone for giving you a sense of worth, for giving your life a sense of meaning and purpose. It is not easy because only a few people in your life touch you so closely that they can influence your life force. Grant was such a force to me and gave me a self belief which has carried me through my career as his successor as Director of Music at Bourne Grammar School seeing the school become a specialist Performing Arts College
Grant was the seed, buying instruments, starting the first ensembles and choir + lessons that actually had a musical content, - venue - dining room!!
But we had a Steinway - a treasured grand piano- concerts started and the school has never looked back - Grant was the instigator of such events (not easy to get a 16 year old to get up and sing "Puppet on a String" )especially whan the Head Master only allowed Bach Beethoven and Chopin(BBC) Enjoy your retirement Grant -and I really hope to see you soon -
best

Two fantastic years I won't ever forget!
Dear Grant,
I can't believe its all over, and feel the need still to check in and let you know how everything is going. Everything I do now in my department!!!! is all thanks to you, I would never have believed I could be a head of department without your encouragement, guidance and good sense. You've been the teacher and friend who gave me the confidence to be the teacher I knew I could be, and I will remember your advice forever. I still hear your voice telling me different things already, its a steep learning curve but I've had the best teacher to help set me up to do it. I wish you all the best in your retirement, and hope you fill your life with lots of exciting things, you'll be busier than ever because that's your nature, so remember you need to have a rest as well! Its been an honour to work with you, and there will never be a two years like it. I'd worked hard but enjoyed every second because of you and the way you were within the department. We had lots of fun, now you and Sue need to continue having fun!!
Thank you for everything, I mean everything, the houseful is much appreciated. Good luck on Sunday, and we're so excited to be there to see you receive your much deserved award.
Best Wishes

Well, well, well
Firstly, i do apologise for my late response to this outstanding and well deserved achievement for a hard-working, determined and good humoured gentleman. Congratulations!!! Over the 5 years of you being my form tutor, i don't think i could of asked for another teacher like yourself. From that first day when i started, we grew a bond and at the end of my school era and at the end of the Walton School era, we remembered the good memories! To me, you are the greatest mentor i have ever had and i believe that developed me into a great musician. Would like to say thankyou for everything you have done over the past years and once again i congratulate you on this fabulous award. Good luck in your retirement, you truly desrerve it.
