Becta is the government agency leading the national drive to ensure the effective and innovative use of technology throughout learning.
It is our ambition to utilise the benefits of technology to create a more exciting, rewarding and successful experience for learners of all ages and abilities, enabling them to achieve their potential. We do this in many ways. We make sure the right technology is available, we influence the development of policy, and we set standards and provide tools that help establish and promote best practice. We know that technology has the potential to transform learning. We are committed to inspiring education providers to realise that potential, and equip learners for Britain’s future success.
Becta's Chief Executive Stephen Crowne welcomed The Becta Award for Next Generation Learning as a key component of the Next Generation Learning campaign which encourages parents, schools and employers to get the most out of technology in education. He said: "Technology has the potential to improve standards and to engage all learners, even those facing the biggest challenges. But it is not an end in itself because computers don't teach pupils; teachers do, and when they use technology to support learning and to address particular needs they can enrich the learning experience like never before. As well as making lessons more relevant to youngsters for whom these technologies are second nature, these outstanding teachers will also ensure their pupils are the best equipped to be the workforce of tomorrow. Anyone can nominate a teacher for this award and we hope that pupils and parents, as well as education colleagues, will be conscious of adults in schools making a difference in this way. No one should miss out on the potential for technology to change their life."For more information on Becta, visit the website at www.becta.org.uk

About the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children’s Services
National College for Leadership of Schools and Children’s Services (National College) offers opportunities to develop the potential of school leaders at every level and to enable schools to work collaboratively with other schools. We support the Teaching Awards because it underlines and celebrates the importance of excellent school leadership.
Our four goals are:
to transform children's achievement and well-being through excellent school leadership
to develop leadership within and beyond the school
to identify and grow tomorrow's leaders
to create a "fit for purpose" national college that offers school leaders the best possible service and support
National College programmes can be accessed across the country through a network of regional providers. School leaders can also access learning online and communicate with each other via the College's popular online community, talk2learn, which now has over 120,000 members and is open to all school leaders including headteachers, deputy heads and middle leaders, as well as teachers, teaching assistants and school bursars. The National College website offers a rich source of information about school leadership, with an extensive range of publications, many of them free, and the College's unique Leadership Library, a free online resource offering busy school leaders quick and easy access to practical resources on a range of leadership and management themes, including materials from Ashridge and Harvard Business Schools, and 50 Lessons.

The Royal Air Force recognises the importance of education and is committed to providing initiatives which are in harmony with the national curriculum. We educate young people regarding such topics as leadership, citizenship, including self-discipline, social skills and integrity primarily through our Motivation Outreach Teams. Our education work also extends to providing schools with GCSE maths and science resources and touring the country with our RAF Maths and Science Workshop; both of which have proven successful and popular amongst schools.
Within today's RAF we also recognise the power of education for our employees. We provide comprehensive training and the opportunity to acquire new skills and qualifications that are of value throughout life. Emphasis is placed on professional teamwork, without which it would be impossible for the RAF to contribute to the security of the United Kingdon or fulfill the vital life-saving and peacekeeping tasks placed upon it. Achievement of these tasks requires teamwork; successful teams acknowledge and value the contribution of each individual.
Many of the qualities we value - leadership, determination, commitment, sense of purpose, self-discipline and teamwork - are evident in both nominees and Teaching Award winners. We applaud the achievements of all those nominated and are proud to be a sponsor of the Teaching Awards.
