The ESOL department at Leeds City College teaches 3000 learners per year with a team of sixty, bringing education and life-changing experiences to some of its most vulnerable citizens in a volatile global climate of migration and superdiversity in UK cities.
Social integration through second language acquisition is fundamental to the work of the team. There are multiple examples of individuals arriving with no English and who are now at university or in employment.
The ESOL team at Leeds City College continues to work with large volumes of marginalised learners and minority groups and provides transformative experiences through qualification routes, enrichment, celebrating diversity and personalised learning towards outstanding achievement rates.
In summary, the team is high-performing, aspirational for their own practice and their students’ achievements and progression.
