The finalists' skills, passion and professionalism will be celebrated at 13 ceremonies in the English regions, in Wales and Northern Ireland between June 13 and July 6.
The Teaching Awards spotlight will also fall on 40 or so sustainable schools chosen from several hundred entries for the new DfES award for sustainable schools.
They include schools which generate their own electricity, who flush toilets with recycled rain water, cultivate orchards and allotments and encourage a host of practical ‘green’ solutions.
The winners will receive a Plato, the Teaching Awards symbol of excellence in education. Their names will then go forward to the televised national final held in London in October.
Schools Minister Jim Knight said: “Many congratulations to all the finalists. I am delighted that excellence in the teaching profession continues to be celebrated through the Teaching Awards and am grateful to all those who do such a rewarding but sometimes difficult job."
