Teaching Award winners make sure their New Year resolutions count
Emma Thompson, president of the Teaching Awards is leading the way into 2010 – encouraging us all to thank the people who transform young lives.
Emma, who will star in her new film Nanny McPhee 2 in the Spring says: ‘January 2010 marks the beginning of a full year for me as new president of the Teaching Awards. Thanking teachers for their invaluable role is dear to my heart. I’m planning to spread the word so that’s my New Year resolution – to tell as many people as I can to thank a teacher at www.teachingawards.com. Nominate someone for a Teaching Award and make 2010 a happy new year.’
Dan Lea, winner of the Becta Award for Next Generation Learning and a teacher at Gearies Infants School, Ilford said: ‘Personally, it’s all about diet from January 2010 because I gave up playing rugby in 2009. I’m promising to workout and eat much more of a balanced diet, not just meat. Perhaps meat and fish!
'Work resolutions? They tie in with the One Mile Project we have up and running. Using the school as a central point, we are creating a one-mile radius archive of music, culture and voice from this neighbourhood, starting with all the children and their parents.
‘The end result will be a massive collection online of music, songs, stories and tales. My normal habit is to get involved in loads of projects all at once but this one needs my full attention. I’m promising that – til March, at least!’
Spyros Elia, winner of the DCSF Award for School Governor of the Year and chairman of governors at Brindishe and Hither Green primary schools in Lewisham, London said: ‘Well, I have never made a New Year resolution in my life but on this occasion I won’t pass. From January 1st next year I shall resolve to tell more people to nominate a friend or colleague for the Teaching Awards. It’s been a great experience for the two schools I’m involved with, so please nominate in 2010.’
The closing date for nominations is the 1st of March. Please visit www.teachingawards.com to nominate.
