A new year thank you
Three new 2010 categories
Now that the new year has begun and resolutions have been made, it’s a perfect time to say thank you in three new Teaching Awards categories for 2010.
Parents, children and young people across England, Wales and Northern Ireland are being urged to nominate for the 2010 Teaching Awards. They can play a vital role in recognising brilliant professionals in local schools.
The three new categories which have been created for 2010 bring the total number of awards to 13.
The first new category is the Teaching Award for Outstanding School Team of the Year - which will recognise excellent teams of staff working together and achieving exceptional things.
Second is an award called ‘Film my school’ – a competition that invites children and young people to get involved and make a short film celebrating their school. It’s an opportunity to tell the world what makes it such a great place to be. There’s a prize of £5,000 worth of video equipment for the UK winner.
Third is The Henry Winkler Teaching Award for Special Needs. Henry Winkler (aka ‘the Fonz’ in Happy Days ) is a keen campaigner for special needs who won significant funding from Absolute Radio for the Teaching Awards – his favourite charity
Outstanding special needs teams can now bid for the funds to support their crucial work. There are three awards, one of £15,000 and two of £10,000.
Henry, who admits he was the ‘class clown’ at school because his own dyslexia was not diagnosed, said: ‘A dedicated special needs teacher is the master-builder who helps rebuild the child’s perception of themselves in order to go on and conquer the world. These teachers’ abilities cannot be in any way minimized.
Season’s greetings everyone.
