'Film My School' Competition

The UK winner of 'Film My School' is Lewis School Pengam, north of Caerphilly in South Wales.

The school received the top prize of film equipment worth £5000 plus a gold Plato - education’s symbol of excellence.

The film lasts just under two minutes and is full of the things that make students want to go to school at this large comprehensive. There’s a strong message here and it’s ‘learning should be fun - this is how it’s done’.

The film is produced and directed by GCSE media student Liam Gough. ‘He’s a bit of a media guru and is definitely the Steven Spielberg of this operation,’ said Chris Parry, deputy headteacher on the eve of the Awards.  ‘It’s a fantastic little film for showing a glimpse of what life is like here.‘

Meanwhile,  there’s an unforgettable soundtrack by sixth form Nathan Battersby who sings and plays acoustic guitar in front of the whole school. It’s a catchy love song, totally memorable, with an educational twist.
