The Pearson Teaching Awards

Celebrating transformational teaching

Gold Winners

2018 – 20 years of the Teaching Awards 25 May 2018

Can you believe it’s been 20 years?! 2018 marks the 20th anniversary of the Teaching Awards. The Awards were set up in 1998 by Lord David Puttnam to recognise and celebrate excellence in education.

Since then we have announced a lot of winners, and awarded a lot of trophies! Read more about our twenty years here.

To celebrate our 20th anniversary, we are showcasing previous winners and looking at the impact winning an award has had on them.

First in the series is Benedick Ashmore-Short, winner of Headteacher of the Year in a Primary School 2014. Read Benedick’s story here.  You can see why the judges chose Benedick as winner in this category by watching the clip from Britain’s Classroom Heroes, the BBC broadcast of the awards ceremony. As Olympic medal-winning gymnast Louis Smith said before presenting Benedick with his award, “Just look how amazing he is”.
